Resilient Asheville

a docuseries

In the wake of an event as devastating as Hurricane Helene,
there exists an imperative to make space for and embrace grief’s
unvarnished expression; to hear its release, and to share stories about
the journey through loss one experiences after a natural disaster: the
flood after the flood.

Wailing Earth is a short-form documentary series that captures the
depths — and loving essence — of grief, and the unyielding hope
of people in Western North Carolina as they rebuild after Hurricane
Helene. We hope this docuseries honors the wellspring of emotion felt
by our community, and our harrowing journey through the rough and
rugged landscape of grief and resilience.

Each episode of Wailing Earth highlights the personal stories of Western
North Carolina residents affected by the hurricane, and showcases
the complex pain and enormous beauty of humanity in the immediate
aftermath of a natural disaster.
